Newmarket

Newmarket was founded by Quaker families from Vermont and Pennsylvania who settled along the Holland River in 1801. Timothy Rogers and his group received 8,000 acres around the river and built the first mill, damming it to create what is now Fairy Lake. That lake still sits at the heart of the city. The Wesley Brooks Conservation Area, known locally as Fairy Lake Park, is where the city runs its Saturday farmers market from May through October at Riverwalk Commons. Main Street South is a designated Heritage Conservation District with buildings from the 1820s still in commercial use. Southlake Regional Health Centre is one of York Region's largest hospitals. These are not amenities. They are the bones of a real city.

The Newmarket GO station on Davis Drive connects to Union Station in under an hour. That connection is what moves the market here faster than almost anywhere in York Region. Properties do not sit here. Buyers who wait get priced out, not by appreciation, but by competition. Upper Canada Mall at Yonge and Davis anchors the retail corridor. The historic downtown has its own independent restaurant and bar scene that the mall has not replaced. Newmarket is not glamorous. It is functional, well-connected, and increasingly in demand from buyers who cannot afford Aurora but want the same quality of life.
